As a nutritionist I quickly realized that issues surrounding eating and body weight cannot be approached only from a biological perspective. I subsequently earned a second degree in psychology and have since combined these two fields in my work, aiming to highlight how our state of mind can instantly influence our bodily functions—including digestion and hunger. Conversely, a physical sensation can just as quickly alter our state of mind, mood, and behavior. The more we internalize this connection, the better equipped we become to unravel both our physical and emotional challenges. As a mother of four, I experience firsthand day to day that there are as many approaches to solutions as there are personality types. In my roles as psychologist, dietitian, and mother, I must operate within a reciprocal dynamic—much like the interplay between body and soul. I consider physical activity essential to maintaining this balance, so I myself strive to start my days with running and yoga every morning.
